M.A. in English Programme (Introduced in 1998) The M.A. in English was launched in 1998 under the aegis of the Faculty of Education and Allied Sciences. In 2025 after the Government approval, when Faculties in the University were restructured, the Department faculty. Since its inception, the Department has been committed to the multi-dimensional development of students while equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to excel in the job market.



Teaching Approach

To ensure all-round development, the Department adopts a cohesive, practical, and motivational teaching strategy. Regular use of modern technology and audio-visual aids enhances students’ linguistic competence and makes learning more engaging and effective.



Alumni Network

TThe Department takes pride in its strong and active alumni network, which not only keeps members connected but also helps them stay informed about various employment opportunities.

A significant number of alumni are successfully placed in Central and State Government universities, colleges, banks, and other prestigious institutions. Many of them hold permanent positions as Professors and Assistant Professors in reputed institutions such as:

  • University of Delhi
  • SGRR University, Dehradun
  • CSJM University, Kanpur
  • Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
  • Meerut University Colleges
  • Regional Engineering Colleges
  • Government Polytechnics

In addition, several alumni are serving as translators in the government sector, showcasing the versatility and employability of our graduates.



Curriculum

The syllabus has been designed in line with the UGC’s latest model curriculum, ensuring students gain:

  • Exposure to and sensitivity towards literature
  • Employability skills for both conventional teaching careers and emerging opportunities in other sectors

The curriculum is revised from time to time in response to job-market requirements.

A distinctive feature of the programme is its blend of traditional English literature courses with job-oriented papers, making it both academically enriching and professionally relevant.



Skill-Oriented Courses

Specialized papers such as Phonetics and Spoken English, Research Methodology, and Professional Communication enhance students’ practical skills, nurture their inherent talents, and refine their linguistic proficiency.
