Powers and Functions



1. Constitute Anti-Ragging Squads and Mentoring Cells.

2. Conduct periodic audits and inspections in academic blocks, hostels, canteens, and recreational areas.

3. Conduct awareness drives, workshops, orientation and counselling sessions across departments and hostels.

4. Review and analyse campus situations periodically.

5. Receive complaints in-person, via email, or through helplines and initiate immediate inquiry.

6. Recommend amendments in rules/policies related to ragging, if necessary.

7. Ensure that students and parents are made aware of anti-ragging policies at admission.



Punishments for Ragging (As per UGC Regulations):

Ragging is a criminal offence. Any student found guilty of ragging may face one or more of the following punishments:


Minor Punishments:

  • Verbal warning or written apology.
  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
  • Withholding of scholarships/fellowships, or other benefits.


Moderate to Major Punishments:

  • Debarring from appearing in exams.
  • Suspension/expulsion from hostel.
  • Withholding results.
  • Rustication from the institution for 1 to 4 semesters.


Severe Punishments:

  • Expulsion from the institution.
  • FIR with local police leading to arrest and legal prosecution.
  • Entry in the central database of ragging offenders (available to institutions nationwide).

Note: Punishment depends on the nature and gravity of the incident, and may be awarded singly or in combination.
