About The Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology



The Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology was established in 1996 and as per university statute 7.17(2) the department is part of the Faculty of Management. Our University was perhaps the first in the country in 1996 to commence a Hotel Management degree program within a university campus and till date ours is the only BHM and MHM program in Rohilkhand region. The department has its own sprawling building in the beautiful green University campus. The department is being headed by Prof. Sanjay Mishra and in his able leadership, is in the process of establishing state-of-the-art laboratories for student training.

Programs Offered

The Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology offers AICTE approved 4-year Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology program with an annual intake of 40 students and 2-year MHM program. The department prepares quality trained manpower for the Hospitality industry. In addition to extensive theoretical and practical training in the hospitality operational areas, management subjects such as Principles of Management, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources Management, Finance as well as related technical subjects such as Food Science, Nutrition and Hygiene form part of the syllabus. The development of right values, discipline, attitude and personality is emphasized to prepare students for the service oriented hospitality industry.

Career Opportunities

The Hotel Management program UG and PG degree open several career opportunities and the graduates can work in Hotels in the areas of Food & Beverage Production, Food & Beverage Services, Front Office Management, Housekeeping, Customer Relations, Marketing, Human Resources etc. Besides Hotels, graduates are employed in Flight Kitchens, Fast Food Chains, Hospitals & Institutional Catering, Airlines, Cruise Lines and Educational institutions. Hotel Management graduates are also preferred in jobs like customer care in financial institutions, event management and many such service based commercial ventures including technologically driven online services and products due to their service oriented training and attitude. Graduates have ample opportunities to become entrepreneurs and many of our alumni have also developed successful businesses and highly valued start up ventures.

The Tourism sector contributed more than 9 % to India’s GDP and accounted for 8% of the country’s employment in 2018. As of 2019, 4.2 crore jobs were created in the tourism sector in India and the number is expected to rise by 2 % per annum to 5.23 crore jobs by 2028 and the employment opportunities will be huge post COVID for Hotel Management graduates.

Training & Placement

The department pioneered 6-months/ 22 weeks compulsory industrial training for BHM students in 1998; this concept was later introduced by National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) in IHM’s all over the country. Students of BHM and MHM do their rigorous Industrial Training in topmost hotels all over the country
