About The Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension

The Department of Adult Continuing and Extension Education was established in 1985 with a basic objective of imparting career oriented education, teaching programmes in the field of women’s studies and rural development. It also aims at collaborating with N.G.Os on the one hand and government agencies on the other.

Among Teaching Programmes of the department one year Post Graduate Diploma in Women Empowerment & Development and P.G Diploma in Entrepreneurship Development have been in introduced in 2002-03. The department has organized short-term vocational courses on embroidery and patch work, screen printing, computer literacy, T.V and drama artist, salesmanship and internet marketing thereby fulfilling its social obligation under extension programme.

There are two sanctioned posts by UGC and State Government viz. Assistant Director and project officer against which Professor and Reader are discharging their duties while 2 guest faculty members have been employed to impart teaching at P.G Diploma. The Faculty members and students of the department have been engaged in research activities as evinced by their published work. The field work and extension activities that aim to enhance the exposure of students within the field contribute in expansion of learning which help in understanding the approach of the papers in the curriculum are based on field work which enhances the knowledge of the students at grass root level.

The Future plan of action includes diversification of teaching programmes especially post graduate diploma programmes of social importance. Research programme is also on the anvil to strengthen academic aspect of the department. It is also proposed to establish M.A in women studies and Master In Human Resource Development (M.H.R.D) both 2 year programmes, Certificate in French (Elementary Level), Certificate in NGO(Laws and Functioning), Certificate in Museology, Certificate in Jewellery Designing, Certificate in Zari-Zardosi are in process. The department will be renamed as ‘Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension.’

Keeping in view the needs of prioritizing group of non –literate adults, women and youth from weaker section of society, other certificate course also proposed such as Certificate in Digital Publishing, Certificate in Urdu (Basic Level), Certificate in Office Management, Certificate in Real Estate Business (Transaction Laws Business), Certificate in Medical Transcription
