The Department of Applied and Regional Economics was established in 1985. It is
located in one of the wings of the faculty of Advanced Social Sciences and
possesses one lecture theatre, two lecture rooms, one seminar- cum- library
room, two offices equipped with computers, over head projector, type and zerox
machines.
The basic objective of the department has been to import need-based
education at Master’s and doctoral level. .The department committed to the goal
of socio-economic development of the region has also established Village
Development Centre. It aims at creating a Data Bank for preparing village
inventory so as to develop the catchment area.
The department offers M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes in the streams
of Applied and Regional Economics to meet teaching and research activities.
There are seven sanctioned positions in the department consisted of one
Professor, two Readers and four lecturers. An additional post of lecturer has
been sanctioned by the U.G.C. in the Xth Plan. There are three non-teaching
employees viz. one computer operator, office assistant and one class IV to
assist teachers students. The department has at present, 15 students in M.A., 15

Since
inception eighteen research students have been awarded Doctorate degree.The
faculty members have contributed significantly to the subject by means of books
and research papers. Some twenty books and equal number of papers have been
published so far. National and International conferences like India Economic
conferences, Society for India Agricultural Economics and India Labour
Association and IAHA etc. have been attended by the faculty. The department has
also organized U.G.C. sponsored Refresher course and U.P. Government funded
Seminar as Land Use.
Village Development Centre and thereby Data
Bank and a Master’s course in the field of Environmental Economics are
highlights of the future plan to be executed from the next academic session.
