Department of ANIMAL SCIENCE is unique in UGC stream which imparts the degree of
M. Sc. Animal Science (Zoology) and
Ph.D. in Animal Science. At the time of inception in 1985, this department
started with two faculty and eight papers in the University building. The
Department shifted to its own building in 1987 in the university premises and
grew rapidly reaching a faculty strength of seven. Twelve papers are being
taught. Presently, highly qualified six faculty members, hailing from reputed
Universities and having scientific collaboration with different institution in
India and abroad, are dealing with the most recent and emerging branches of
Animal Science (Zoology) viz. Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology,
Cell and Molecular Biology, Embryology, Endocrinology, Environmental Science,
Entomology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology and
Parasitology which are in accordance with UGC guidelines . Initially, the intake
of students in the Department was twenty and admission was based on merit but
now the intake is thirty and admission is based on the Entrance Test conducted
by the University in the month of May-June every year. B. Sc. Students with ZBC
are eligible to appear in such test to take admission in the course. In
addition, the Department has well constructed building of Animal House & Fish
ponds to conduct various experiment in captivity. The well versed faculty with
their excellent research laboratories (viz. Endocrionolgy – Molecular mechanism
of hormone action, Parasitology – hydrobiology, fish genetics,
Earthworm Ecology and Environmental Research and Research in Vermiculture and Vermicomposting for
sustaineble agriculture and Organic farming , Aquatic Biotechnology and Fish
Pathology – Bacterial pathogens, immunomodulation and phage therapy, Animal
Biotechnology – molecular characterization of gene, gene cloning etc. ) are exclusively
devoted for quality research of Ph. D. students and have produced high standard
papers of national and international repute. About a dozen of research projects
funded by ICAR, AICTE, DBT. MoEF, UGC, UPCST, UPCAR etc, costing more than 100
