The department of Adult continuing education and Extension was established in
1985 with a basic objective of imparting career oriented education, furthering
continuing education, teaching programems in the field of Women Studies and
Rural Development . It also aimed at collaborating with NGOs on the one had and
Government agencies on the other.
The department has its own building containing lecture theatres and rooms for
extension activities. All the teachers have their of
fices, besides ministerial
office. It has modern gadgets such as computer, TV and VCR, Pas and display
boards necessary for teaching and extension programmes. A departmental library
caters to the need of students of women studies and Rural Development Assistant.
Among teaching programmes of the department a Post Graduate Diploma in Women
Empowerment and Development, Masters in Rural Development and Management have
recently been introduced. The department has organized short-term vocational
courses on embroidery and patch work, screen printing, computer literacy, T.V.
and Drama Artist, salesmanship and internet marketing thereby fulfilling its
social obligation under extension programme.
There are two sanctioned posts viz. Director and Project officer against which
one Director and One Asstt. Director are discharging their duties while five
guest faculty members have been employed to impart teaching at P.G. Diploma and
Masters programems of study. The former has 36 students while the latter
programme has enrolled 50 students. The faculty members of the department has
been engaged in research activities as evinced by their published work. One book
and a number of research papers and articles have been published.
The future plan of action includes diversification of teaching programmes
especially post graduate diploma programmes of social importance. Research
programme is also on the anvil to strengthen academic aspect of the department.
It is also proposed to establish a Women Study Centre, Job Promotion Centre, and
training of Rural poor for skill development
